For the majority of my life I was a “negative thinker”. In retrospect, while this is very clear to me now, I was oblivious to this fact at the time. Over the last 10 years I have done extensive reading on the power of positive thinking. It wasn’t until I started listening to my internal voice that I realized how negative my thoughts were. I would often hear my internal voice would say things like “don’t do that stupid” or “you can’t do that” or “you are not attractive enough…” You get where I am going with this. Not only does this set us up for unrealistic expectations, it fuels the internal stressors creating imbalance in our bodies. There are many factors that promote negative thinking behaviors. Whether it is related to negative conditioning in childhood , a past trauma, or someone else’s expectations – negative thinking attracts more negativity into your life.
As women, we can not allow the perception of others to determine how we define ourselves. Society and the media tell women what we should look like and how we should act and think. From our physical appearance to the struggle between our various personal and professional roles – we are always being judged…..and worse yet judging ourselves. You must change your thinking to make positive changes in your life.
The transition from being a negative thinker to a becoming a positive thinker requires you to first gain an awareness of you current patterns of thinking and perception; then to proceed on a purposeful journey to transform your thoughts, and ultimately your life. In the next 2 posts I will share with you several of the key of resources that have helped me move forward in my own personal journey to change the way I think. For me, the road has been rocky along the way. Changing decades of negative thinking was not a simple task, but more like a daily battle between my “self perceived” versus the “real me”. Do not underestimate the power of making these changes in your life. Like me, you have the power to change these negative thought patterns and transform your life.

The next few paragraphs are excerpts from the book The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. The book is a compilation of the stories of many people whose lives have been changed by the power of positive thinking.
Every thought you generate has a specific frequency that can be measured. You are like a human transmission tower – changing the frequency of your thoughts has the power to change anything in your life. What you think on a day to day basis will impact on how your future unfolds. Thoughts are the process of creation – you are constantly thinking therefore you are always creating. The thoughts that dominant your life will determine what appears in your life. Most people think are thinking about what they don’t want, and wondering why it shows up in their lives over and over again – (John Assaral). In other words, if you are focusing on negative thoughts, negative things will keep showing up in your life. If you are a chronic complainer, the laws of attraction will bring more things to your life to complain about.
Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s upcoming attractions - Albert Einstein
Visualization can be a powerful tool to master your thoughts to manifest positive changes in your life. Visualization is a process of creating a vision in your mind of who you are and what you want in your life, rather than what you do not have. Instead of focusing on the fact that you are overweight, you focus on how you look and feel at your ideal weight. Dr. Denis Waitley used the process of visualization with a group of Olympic athletes in the 1980s & 90s. While connected to bio-feedback equipment, each athlete was instructed to run their race in their mind. “Incredibly, the same muscles fired in the same sequence when they ran the race in their mind as when they were actually running the race on the track“. Your mind is a powerful tool – you can use it to degrade yourself and your body or you can use it to help you transform yourself into the incredible woman you are destined to be.
Gratitude is a powerful process to help reprogram your thoughts and set the tone or frequency for your day. Dr. Joe Vitalle, a certified hypnotherapist, a metaphysical practioner and ordained minister, suggests that you start by making a list of things to be grateful for then start every day by expressing your gratitude for the positive things in your life. Again, this helps to shift your energy from what you don’t have to what you do have, creating a more positive flow of thoughts. Give thanks for what you have – some day it may save your life.
This leads me to the topic of my next post which will focus on how the power of your belief has the capacity to change your life, your health and your genetic blueprint.
